Sportsplex To Be Renamed

Starkville, MS August 22, 2013 — The Starkville Park Commissionannounces that it will dedicate one of the Sportsplex’s main facility to Sacramento Kings small forward, Travis Outlaw. Outlaw’s accomplishmentsas a professional NBA player after being drafted by the Portland Trailblazers in 2003, being a former Starkville High School graduate, homegrown Mississippian at heart and outstanding community involvement has bestowed upon him this great honor. This occasion also marks Outlaw’s 10th year in the NBA league.

“It makes us proud, my wife and me, knowing that we did the best we could in raising him and making sure he never forgets where he comes from,” Outlaw’s father, John Outlaw, said. “It’s a great feeling since he’s so happy and he’s proud of his home. He tells young kids that they can accomplish anything they set out to do, and that there is no limit

to their potential.”

Parks Director Herman Peters said the event, which is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Sportsplex, August 23, will serve as a kickoff for Saturday’s annual Travis Outlaw Day at McKee Park. The day was first decreed on August 25, 2005. The day consists of free food, prize giveaways and an abundance of activities for the whole family!

Travis Outlaw Day is a celebration that involves thousands of fans, family and friends that want to show their  appreciation for Travis Outlaw and everything that he has done over the last several years. Having his hometown dedicate a part of its history is truly a great gift to Outlaw for his 10th year in the league.
