COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — As students from Eiland Middle School travel to Columbia to help victims from the December 23 tornado outbreak, they will bring along a very special tradition.

When Tyler Tucker lost his life in the April 28th tornado in Louisville, his grandmother wanted a way to preserve his legacy.

She spread sunflower seeds all through Louisville, but they will now be spread in Columbia as well.

The students will bring over 20 packets of sunflowers seeds to plant when they travel to Columbia to help clear tornado debris.

“Were also taking his picture. That way we can show the people in Columbia Tyler. We are going to ask them to plant the sunflower seeds in memory of him and maybe it’ll be something they can adopt and take to other places,” says Linda Rogers a teacher a Eiland Middle School.

The idea to plant the sunflower seeds & bring Tyler’s picture came from the students in Mrs. Rogers gifted class. Tyler was in the gifted program at Fair Elementary.
