STARKVILLE, Miss. – (WCBI) Starkville Aldermen narrowed the 10 person field. Battalion Chief Curtist Randle, Training Officer Charles Yarbrough, and Fire Marshal Stein McMullen are all internal candidates. External candidates include Terry Tucker and Michael Chandler

The interviews will be held at the Starkville Sportsplex at 5 p.m on March 30th.

The top candidate will replace Chief Roger Mann, who has since retired. Until then, Mark McCurdy is serving in the interim.

After a heated debate, Starkville city employees will see a pay increase this fall.

Aging equipment forces Starkville alderman to sign an emergency contract with a rental company.

Only one of the three garbage trucks is operable, and the contract will go to putting two more trucks into circulation. The department covers more than 10,000 locations with twice a week garbage pick-up, and curbside recycling and rubbish services once a week.

Aldermen voted to do an equipment rental contract for one month, at which point they will once again consider a rate increase for a more permanent solution.
