STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) –  Starkville’s city leaders will get a pay raise, after all.

The Board of Alderman voted 5 to 1 to override Mayor Park Wiseman’s decision to not accept salary increases.

Aldermen salaries will go from $12,000 to $15,000  a year, while the mayor’s annual salary will increase from $60,000 to $70,000.

Wiseman said elected officials should be the last people to get raises, and that the money should be focused on city needs.

The raises will go into effect in October of 2014.

That’s after the next mayoral election.

It will be Starkville city leaders’ first pay raise in more than 9 years.
