STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — More than 4,000 new students are making Mississippi State University their home for the next four years.

Incoming Mississippi State University freshman, Taryn Mann, is excited to start her college journey.

“Like it still hasn’t hit me yet. I guess it won’t really hit me until class starts but it’s still crazy to just see everybody moving in and excited and ready to start,” says Taryn Mann.

More than 500 volunteers are scattered throughout campus to help freshmen like Taryn feel right at home.

“That’s really welcoming and warming just because I feel like some colleges might not do that and you have to move in everything on your own so to have people to help you and then you can also meet new people,” says Mann.

Taryn’s father, Brandon, says when he was a freshman at MSU, his move-in day didn’t seem easy.

“Back in 1990. So me and my folks did all the moving in ourselves so quite a bit a difference. I think it’s good once again to have these folks here helping and that would have been nice back in the day,” says Brandon Mann.

‘It’s a wonderful easy process what families can literally drive right up to their resident’s hall, unload all their boxes and clothes and we have an army of people here to help move them right into their resident hall,” says Dr. Mark Keenum, MSU president.

Sophomore Hunter Ashmore says he doesn’t mind hauling all this stuff through the dorms across campus.

“It’s scary and fearful and new and just it’s nice to be able to show that the university is community and it’s a family. We want to come help you during this time and we’re here with you all through college and we want to show this is a way we can show that we are here as a family together,” says Ashmore.

Classes may not start for another week, but there’s no doubt these incoming freshmen will feel a part of  the bulldog family.

Fall classes for MSU begin August 18.
