Starkville Park Gets New Kid-Friendly Equipment

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Starkville children now get to take advantage of some new upgrades at a local park.

Dozens of students with the Starkville school district were on hand Tuesday morning for a ribbon cutting at J.L. King, Sr. Memorial Park.

They’re excited about some new equipment there.

The city had a transglide installed near the splash pad – which has wheelchair access – and also added exercise stations around the walking track.

City workers say this will allow them to reach out to more children.

“This is one of the most highly used and visible parks that we have in the city of Starkville,” said Ron Crossman, Healthy Starkville Committee. “A number of people drive by day and night, and people using this facility, and we want to make it more accessible, especially to the young children, and handicapped children.”

The 2013 Healthy Starkville grant from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation helped pay for the new equipment.
