TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Long time State Representative David Gibbs is dead at the age of 76.
Gibbs had been hospitalized at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo where he passed away. According to a hospital spokeswoman, the 19 year legislator died Sunday. No other details are being released at this time.
The Democrat from West Point had recently submitted a letter of resignation due to health reasons but Tuesday he submitted a letter rescinding his resignation.
Representative Gibbs had served in the House since 1993 and represented District 36, which include parts of Clay, Lowndes and Monroe counties.
Governor Phil Bryant has 30 days to hold a special election to fill the vacated seat.
