State Revenues Exceed Estimates

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – State revenue collections exceeded estimates for the month of December.

Collections were at 5.8% or just over $20 million. The fiscal year is half way complete and so far collections are just above $80 million. The revenue estimates represent the amount of tax revenue law makers used during the 2012 session to set a budget to fund state agencies including education, public safety and Medicaid.

Revenue collection for December 2012 were close to $15 million above 2011 Decembers collections and almost $62 million more than the amount collected during the same six month period a year ago.

The legislature is only days away from beginning the 2013 session where they will be in charge of passing a budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins July 1st.
