Stopping Child Hunger in Starkville

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) РAfter receiving a grant to raise awareness about child hunger, Volunteer Starkville planted and tended to 3 gardens in the area.

Volunteers from Mississippi State and the surrounding areas participated in the gardening as a part of National Volunteer Week and Global Youth Service Day. Gardens will not only be used to grow food, but to educate Starkville children on how to improve their diets.

“We’re going to teach the kids about eating healthy, how to plant their own foods, and how to implement all the different types of vegetables and fruits into their meals. It’s just a beautiful thing to see kids and the community come together for a cause like this,” said Lucas Davenport, director of the Boys and Girls Club in Starkville.

The gardens that were planted today will also produce goods that will be donated to Starkville families.
