Study Predicts 126,000 New Jobs in States

The health care industry will see the fastest job growth in the state in the next seven years, a new study says.
The study by Georgetown University says the state will have 473,000 job openings by the year 2020 and 126,000 actual new jobs. Of those new jobs, 27,000 will be in health care related fields. Many of those will require at least some level of higher education, putting more demands on the state’s two- and four-year colleges.

Meanwhile, the services and manufacturing sectors also will see thousands of new jobs but a smaller percentage of those will need college degrees. However, the state’s high schools will be under more pressure to turn out workers will technical skills through vo-tech programs.

The state’s job growth ranked above Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas and Louisiana.
