Sunday Afternoon Drug Bust

Kelvin Robinson

COLUMBUS, Miss. – (WCBI)On Sunday, December 9, 2012, Agent Don Richardson with the Columbus Police Department Narcotics Force was patrolling Main Street when he noticed silver Infiniti in the side parking lot of the Dollar General Store with a black male and white male sitting in the vehicle.

Due to Agent Richardson’s training and experience he was suspicious and knew that the passenger was informing the driver that he was a police officer. As he was approaching the vehicle, he smelled the overwhelming scent of marijuana.

Agent Richardson called a patrol unit to back him up and when they arrived, he asked the driver, Kelvin Larando Robinson of 4180 Highway 373, Columbus, MS and Brian Rushing of Columbus MS, the passenger to exit the vehicle.

The driver was asked if he had any weapons or illegal drugs on him or in the vehicle. Robinson said he had drugs in a backpack on the back seat of the vehicle. The patrol officer and Agents Richardson and Eric Lewis searched the vehicle where they found almost four ounces of marijuana, pills, scales, bullets, but no weapon and money that totaled more than two thousand dollars in the console.

Rushing had a bag of marijuana on him in his front pocket consistent with the marijuana found in the vehicle. Kelvin Robinson was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. He was transported to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center; Brian Rushing was issued a citation.

Robinson’s bond is $2500.00 and a court date has been set for January 17, 2013.
