Sunday Sports News Wrap-up

(WCBI Sports) – Tupelo 49ers lost to Midwest City, Okla. in a win-or-go home regional semifinal game Sunday. The American Legion team lost 14-0. It was a tough end to their otherwise great season. The team was competing for a spot in Monday’s championship.

Alabama sophomore Emma Talley won the 2013 United States Women’s Amateur Championship Sunday with a victory over Yueer Cindy Feng at the Charleston Country Club. Talley is the first Alabama woman to capture the nation’s premier amateur title.

Mississippi State senior Chad Ramey will compete in the U.S. Amateur Championship beginning Monday. The Fulton, Miss., native will tee off at 11:45 a.m. with fellow Bulldog Joe Sakulpolphaisan as his caddy.

Former Ole Miss long jumper Brittney Reese won another world title Sunday as she captured her third-straight crown at the 2013 World Championships in the women’s long jump. Reese jumped 7.01 meters on her second attempt in Moscow. She has won six consecutive international titles, including Olympic gold in London in 2012.

Mississippi State junior All-American Erica Bougard will begin competition Monday in the heptathlon at the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow. The Byhalia, Miss., native won the NCAA indoor title in the pentathlon and placed fourth in the heptathlon at the outdoor meet this past year and will be competing for Team USA.
