JACKSON (AP) – The U.S. Supreme Court won’t hear an appeal from Mississippi death row inmate Bobby Batiste who wanted a new trial in 2008 slaying of his roommate.

The order was issued Monday.

The Mississippi Supreme Court upheld Batiste’s conviction and death sentence last year.

Batiste, a former Mississippi State University student, was sentenced to death in 2009 in Oktibbeha County. He was convicted of capital murder in the 2008 death of Andreas Galanis.

Prosecutors say Galanis died from a blow to the head after the two fought at their off-campus apartment.

Prosecutors say the fight began when Galanis discovered money missing from his checking account. Batiste told police Galanis attacked him first, according to court records.
