Suspect Sought in Columbus Shooting

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Surveillance video clears the son of the Columbus police chief as a shooting suspect and state investigators are looking for the actual shooter.

The shooting occurred in the parking lot of a market at the corner of 14th Avenue North and Waterworks Wednesday night.

A group of people were in the parking lot when the victim was shot in the shoulder and arm.

Friends started driving him to the hospital but stopped at the Boys and Girls Club on 14th Avenue North to meet an ambulance.

The victim told police Chief Selvain McQueen’s son was among the youths in the disturbance.

McQueen picked up his son and turned him over to detectives and immediately called the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation to take over the case.

Video cameras at the store later showed McQueen’s son was inside the store, not in the parking lot, at the time of the shooting and he was released.

Investigators tell us they know the identity of a suspect and are looking for him now.
