MABEN, Miss. (WCBI) — Maben volunteer firefighters spend Thursday morning battling two suspicious blazes. And investigators are trying to determine whether a third fire Wednesday is related.

Firefighters answered the first call at about 12:15 a.m. Thursday at an abandoned house in a field along Highway 82 on the eastern edge of Mathiston. After battling that blaze for three hours, Maben Fire Chief Justin Collins was on his way home when he spotted another vacant home fully engulfed, this one on Starkville Maben Road on the edge of Maben.

The house had under gone several months of renovations and a renter was to move in soon.

Both fires are being investigated by the Webster and Oktibbeha County sheriff’s departments.

A third fire at a vacant house on Robinson Road near East Oktibbeha High School Wednesday afternoon also is being checked to see if it might be linked.
