Sword Tabbed SEC Frosh of the Week

Following a two game-performance where he averaged 17 points and totaled a career-high 18 points against South Carolina, Mississippi State’s Craig Sword was named the SEC’s Freshman of the Week on Monday.

He’s the second MSU player to be recognized this season, as Gavin Ware garnered the accolade the week of Dec. 24.

“It means a lot, but I’ve got to move on from it and move on to the game,” Sword said.

In a 56-54 win against the Gamecocks to open SEC play on Jan. 9, the Montgomery, Ala., native broke a 52-all tie with 46 seconds to play on two made free throws. He then responded on the defensive end with a steal and dunk to seal the victory.

Then Saturday at Georgia, he totaled 16 points and four rebounds to go along with his two steals as MSU departed with a come-from-behind 72-61 victory.

On the year, Sword is averaging 9.6 points and leads the Bulldogs with 28 steals.
