STARKVILLE, Miss. (Press Release) — Agents over the three-day weekend arrested a Texas man in Mississippi in connection with the seizure of approximately $100,000 in cocaine, interim Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Director Samuel W. Owens said Tuesday.

Charles A. Skelly, 25, of Houston, Texas, faces one count of possession of a kilogram of cocaine with intent to distribute, Director Owens said.

“A kilogram of cocaine is slightly more than two pounds of the controlled substance and has a wholesale value of approximately $34,000. But, when reduced to the smaller quantities typically sold on the street for $100 per gram, it has an estimated street value of more than $100,000,” said MBN Enforcement Commander Lt. Col. Mike Perkins.

Skelly’s arrest comes after a weeklong investigation by the MBN, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, with assistance from the Oktibbeha County Sheriff Department. It stems from an investigatory stop made February 15 in Starkville, said Lt. Col. Perkins.

“Agents located a suspect believed to be involved in the transport and trafficking of cocaine and made the arrest in the early morning hours Saturday,” said Oktibbeha County Sheriff Steve Gladney.

Skelly was held in the Oktibbeha County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
