TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — U.S. Rep. Thad Cochran’s (R-Miss.) supporters want voters to know what the state stands to lose if the veteran senator loses the fight for his political career in next week’s Republican runoff.

Executives from General Atomics, Hawkeye Industries and other Lee County businesses that have benefited from Cochran’s assistance said “thank you” during a rally today. Analysts say one of Cochran’s best hopes of overtaking Tea Party favorite Chris McDaniel is to get people who didn’t vote three weeks ago to realize Cochran’s value in the Senate and to vote next week.

Any opportunity I can support the Mississippi delegation, General Atomics wants to be here,” General Atomics Vice President Scott Forney said. “Thad Cochran has been extraordinary. I’ve been with the company for seven years and I can’t tell you anything I’ve asked for from either Roger Wicker or Thad Cochran, they’ve delivered. So I’m very proud to be here.”

Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton also thanked Cochran for his support in the wake of the April tornado.
