TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – The Bancorpsouth Arena is home to the Greatest Show On Earth. “Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey makes it different every year, we have to make sure we fully charge and engage the audience, we are different in the respect that the action is now , it’s happening live,” said Melinda Hartline, spokesperson with Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus. This show is called “Fully Charged Gold Edition” and there are a number of unique acts for the young and young at heart. Performers come from all corners of the globe, and our media preview session began with a strongman from Mongolia known as the Titanic Tulga.
He is known for his ability to juggle 16 pound bowling balls, and instead of twirling a baton, Tulga uses a telephone pole. He travels with his family and says the circus life never gets old. “I like traveling a lot with my family, my children like the circus, they like cities every week, different cities, we like it,” Tulga said. Then we were introduced to a performer from the Czech Republic. Zuzana is part of the Smaha Troupe. They are known for their high energy tumbling and juggling routine and they believe in getting audience members involved, especially on media preview day. “There are a lot of different elements you can see in the act, it’s not just one thing, so they can see a lot of movements and power,” Zuzana said.
Next we met Maria Lopez from Chile. She and her husband are part of the Lopez Troupe. They dazzle audiences with a high wire act, and a motorcycle display inside a specially built globe . “You have to practice everyday, you have to focus all the time, but at the same time it’s fun, so I don’t take this like a job, it’s like a hobby,” Maria said. Once again they let members of the media get involved, this time with a knife throwing act. The Fully Charged Gold Edition features many more acts, animals and of course clowns. It all starts Thursday evening at the Bancorpsouth Arena.
