HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) — Good grades are literally paying off some Houston students.

The PACE Foundation handed out cash and prizes to students who received top scores on state standardized tests.

The group of area business leaders gave gift certificates, movie tickets, a total of $600 in cash and an iPod at Houston Upper Elementary.

Organizers hope the rewards spur more good test grades.

“I hope the program continues to increase in cost every year,” PACE Chairman Bobby Mooneyham. “That means the test scores have improved, and it’s been a success.”

“I plan on using my iPod to text my friends, play games, and use the calculator,” Houston iPod winner Sarah Brassfield said.

The PACE Foundation is part of North Mississippi’s CREATE Foundation.
