Traffic Stops Nab Suspected Burglars, Meth

CLAY COUNTY, Miss. — A Thanksgiving Day traffic stop by the Clay County Sheriff Department resulted in the arrests of two Webster County men. Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott stated an alert citizen notified the Clay County Sheriff Department of two suspicious males traveling in the western part of Clay County. Arrested were Tyler N. White, age 22, of 1161 East Old Hwy 82, Eupora, MS and Brad Avent, age 30, of 1433 Samuel Lake Road, Maben, MS. During the course of the traffic stop, investigators discovered stolen items from a home burglary that was just reported from the area. Two flat screen television sets, a surround sound system and others items were recovered from the vehicle. A small amount of cash and the vehicle was seized by the Clay County Sheriff Department. White is charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Paraphernalia and Burglary of a Dwelling and Avent is charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Paraphernalia and Burglary of a Dwelling

Both individuals are currently incarcerated at the Clay County Detention Center awaiting an initial court appearance at the Clay County Justice Court. No bond has been set as of press time.

On November 21, 2012 a traffic stop initiated by the Clay County Sheriff Department resulted in the arrest of David Ray Winfield, age 45, of 145 Tom Valentine Road, Pheba. Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott stated investigators recovered a significant amount of methamphetamine (approximately 19.6 grams) and was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Scott stated a small amount of cash and the vehicle was seized by law enforcement officials. Winfield is currently incarcerated at the Clay County Detention Center. No bond has been set as of press time. His initial court appearance will be December 6, 2012 at the Clay County Justice Court.
