COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – It was an early start at the Columbus Riverwalk Saturday as citizens came out to raise money for Helping Hands with a 5K run.

The event was hosted by the First United Methodist Church to help give back to the community just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Area residents came bundled up with their running shoes laced, ready to hit the course. The fun filled atmosphere started with a 5k run for more experienced runners and a 1 mile walk for families.

“We had 85 people register for the event so we were really excited about that and we hope to make it an annual even that our church does right before Thanksgiving because this is the time of the year that Helping Hands needs food for the food pantry and we’re hoping to fill the pantry up for them,” said Beth Jeffers, Director of the event.

Everyone was asked to bring food to fill up the truck and all proceeds gathered went to Helping Hands.
