Troubled Corinth Cemetery Set For Auction

 PRESS RELEASE

Jackson—A Northeast Mississippi cemetery will now be sold by public bid after years of financial uncertainty.  An Alcorn County Chancery Judge ordered the sale of Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Corinth after the original owner raided the trust account of almost $500,000.

“We are hopeful this sale will restore stability and bring closure to families who have loved ones buried at Forrest Memorial Park,” says Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann.  “Our ultimate goal was for this cemetery to be placed in private ownership.  This sale is the final step towards that goal.”

Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery consists of approximately 12.50 acres and the sale includes real property only and does not include contractual obligations of the former owners.  Sealed bids should be submitted to Alcorn County Chancery Clerk Bobby Marolt no later than 5:00 pm, Friday, May 8, 2015.  The bids will be opened no later than 3:00 pm, Monday, May 11, 2015 and the property sold to the highest bidder.

All closing costs, surveying or legal fees are the responsibility of the individuals who purchases the property.

The Secretary of State’s Office will prepare a bid package for Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery which will be available on the Agency’s website at www.sos.ms.gov.
