Last minute preparations are underway at Tupelo’s West Jackson Street Baptist Church for this weekend’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
The Tupelo church held its first services in October 1962 and one charter member says while things have changed a great deal in the past half century, there are some things that have remained constant.
“It was a rural type area, there was a few street lights, there were streets, but it wasn’t all streets. It is more like a family than anything else. If there’s a need, immediately, you will have somebody from the church to contact you, it’s been like for the 50 years we’ve been here,” said Charter Member Ruth Langford.
West Jackson Street Baptist Church will have a special celebration service and concert starting at 9:30 am October 7th.
