Tupelo Council Pushed Pause on Shelton’s Plan

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Mayor Jason Shelton’s capital plan has been put on hold by the Tupelo City Council. A 5-2 vote suspended two proposals he wanted to add to the city’s capital projects for 2014.

The council voted to support over $800,000 in funding for long-term projects, but voted to deny $250,000 until a later date.

A miniature Vietnam War Memorial and walking trail expansion at the Elvis Presley birthplace are on the agenda, but council members want to look at other funding sources that would better accommodate the city.

A work session is on the books for next week to thoroughly discuss Mayor Shelton’s capital plan.
