TUPELO, Miss. – (WCBI) Work is underway on a drainage project along Tupelo’s Kings Creek. Crews are moving large rocks along the creek bank near Rankin Extended. The rocks will help slow the erosion of the banks.

However, as the creek gets closer to Gloster St., the banks get steeper and workers will use a fabric membrane and large rocks with grout between them to ensure they stay in place.

It is the first of four phases of a joint project between the city and the Corps of Engineers.

The next three phases will continue downstream from Gloster to near Eason Boulevard. The Corps will reimburse the city for 75% of the cost of the project.
