TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — It began as a dream for a Tupelo City Councilwoman.

And Saturday, the annual Communities Forward Festival brought members of the community to Gum Tree Park to sample some great food, and hear some political speeches from local politicians doing final campaigning before Tuesday’s election.

The festival was the idea of Ward 4 Councilwoman Nettie Davis, who wanted to show the community that the police can be your friend.

She saw the need for developing a positive image of law enforcement officers, in their role and responsibilities to the community.

Davis says the festival has grown tremendously, especially the last two years.
