TUPELO, Miss. – A Tupelo man has made it to the top of the highest mountain in Africa.

31-year-old Travis Hunsicker reached the summit of Mount Kilamanjaro early Sunday morning.

The Tupelo resident had attempted the climb before, but had to turn back because of altitude sickness.

Earlier this year he entered a contest sponsored by the late radio talk show host Kidd Kraddick. Hunsicker was one of the winners of the “I Have A Dream” contest and he won an all expense paid trip to Africa to try the climb again.

Tupelo resident Mark Stevens also made the climb with Hunsicker.

Kraddick died suddenly a couple of weeks ago at the age of 53.
