A Tuscaloosa man has been charged for first-degree rape and human trafficking of a 14 year-old teenager of Mississippi.

The charges against Kornelius Pierre Simmons, 22, resulted from an incident police claim that happened in June, involving the Mississippi teen.

The teen, 14, had been reported missing out of Mississippi on May 30. Following a lead from one of her family members, Tuscaloosa Police found her at the Motel 6 on McFarland Boulevard on June 15.

Police said the teen was forced to travel to Tuscaloosa. However, there was not enough information to affirm it. Information was obtained later to be presented before a grand jury.

A grand jury reviewed the evidence and found reason to charge Simmons with human trafficking and first-degree rape, according to an indictment filed in Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court on Thursday.

Simmons is being held at the Tuscaloosa County Jail with bond set at $120,000.
