OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Two Aliceville, Ala. men are charged in connection with a shooting Saturday afternoon at races at the Starkville Raceway on Old West Point Road near the Clay-Oktibbeha County line.

The Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department says 21-year-old Deanthony Sanders is charged with aggravated assault and 21-year-old Lyzell McCaa is charged with accessory after the fact. They remain in the Oktibbeha County Jail pending a court hearing.

A 20-year-old Alabama man was several times shot at about 4:15 p.m. Saturday the track with what investigators think was a 9 mm handgun. Detectives say it’s unclear whether the men knew each other before the shooting. The victim is in stable condition at University Medical Center in Jackson.

When deputies arrived, more than 100 people were around and witnesses were able to provide a vehicle description and names of possible suspects. They were stopped a short time later by state troopers and Brooksville Police on Highway 388 in Noxubee County as they apparently tried to return to Aliceville.

A weapon has been recovered.
