Two Arrested in Separate Lowndes Traffic Stops

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (Press Release) — On the early morning of Saturday August 23, 2014, deputies of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department stopped a vehicle driven by Lemarcus Smith at the entrance of Applewood Apartments and William Roberts Road.

Agents of the Lowndes County Narcotics Unit arrived on scene and a brief investigation and search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 11 grams of powder cocaine and 8 grams of crack cocaine. Also in the vehicle were digital scales for weighing the illegal narcotics and 30 dosage units of Lortab 10. The total street value of the illegal drugs that were found is over $2,000.00.

The Lowndes County Narcotics Unit also seized an undetermined amount of cash from Smith.

Lemarcus Demon Smith, 28, of Columbus, was on parole with the Mississippi Department of Corrections at the time of this arrest. Smith was placed in custody and charged with Possession of cocaine and possession of a controlled substance.

Smith is currently in the custody of the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.

Smith is on parole from a 2003 cocaine sale conviction. He also has three counts of aggravated assault and one of possession of a weapon by a felon pending stemming from a Jan. 1, 2013 shooting incident in the parking lot at the Sprint Mart on Highway 69 South in Columbus.

On Sunday August 24, 2014, deputies of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Mark Biller on Lehmberg Road near the intersection of Bishop Circle. After an investigation Biller was arrested for driving under the influence.

Agents of the Lowndes County Narcotics Unit arrived on scene and after searching the vehicle two ounces of marijuana was found.

Mark Anthony Biller, 28, of Columbus, was arrested and charged with Careless driving, driving under the influence 1st offense, and possession of marijuana more than one ounce. Biller is currently in the custody of the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting bond.
