LOWNDES, Miss. (WCBI) — Two people are being treated at Baptist Golden Triangle Hospital after a mid morning head on collision.

The wreck happened just after nine Thursday morning on Highway 12 near Steens.

Initial reports show a Dodge 3500 pickup driven by Derek Lowery, 46, of Lowndes County was eastbound when it was hit head on by a Mazda Tribute driven by Raygenna Wright, 43, of Tupelo.

Lopwery said the other driver started drifting into the eastbound lane and he steered toward the shoulder and ditch but the other SUV hit his truck head on.

It took volunteer firemen close to 45 minutes to safely cut Wright from the wreckage.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital, but the injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
