Two Tupelo Police Officers Shot During Bank Robbery

bank-robbery-1 UPDATE   Tupelo police confirm one officer has died from wounds suffered  during shootout.

Two Tupelo police officers were shot during a chase after a bank robbery on Monday afternoon.

City Spokesperson Sarah Robinson says the officers were called to the Gloster Creek branch of BancorpSouth on south Gloster for a bank robbery. Once they arrived on scene a chase ensued. Gunfire was exchanged between the suspects and officers. Robinson couldn’t confirm if it was a foot or car chase.

Robinson says multiple suspects fled the scene, going east, in a white Yukon.

The two unidentified officers are in critical condition at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Robinson could not confirm if the suspects were in custody.

She says Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton is aware of the situation and praying for the injured officers.
