Two Tupelo Students Get West Point Appointments

TUPELO, Miss. — Tupelo High School seniors, Benton Barber and William Ikerd, have received full appointment offers to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Principal Jason Harris says he is proud that these young men have received this honor. “Benton and William are incredible students; intelligent, focused, involved and great leaders. I couldn’t be happier for them and expect that they will excel at the academy as they have at Tupelo High.”

Both Benton and William will graduate from THS in May and report to West Point at the end of June to begin their four year educational careers. The appointments are each equivalent to a $400,000 scholarship. Upon graduation, they will also be commissioned officers.
