Tyner Out of Central Mississippi PSC Race

JACKSON (AP) – Attorney Mitch Tyner says he’s dropping out of the Public Service Commission race in central Mississippi, in the name of Republican unity.

Tyner says Tuesday that he is supporting Tony Greer for the GOP nomination for the open seat.

Greer is a Hinds County supervisor and former Clinton alderman. With Tyner’s departure, Greer faces Brent Bailey in the Republican primary.

Two Democrats are running for the central district PSC nomination: Bruce Wilder Burton and state Rep. Cecil Brown.

The current central district public service commissioner, Republican Lynn Posey, is not seeking re-election.

The commission regulates state utilities.

Party primaries are Aug. 4, and the general election is Nov. 3.
