United Way Needs Volunteers

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – United Way of Lowndes County is looking for volunteers to help with clean up efforts for residents.

Debris is left behind from the April 28th tornado that passed through the area damaging businesses and homes. According to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency 90 homes were damaged in Lowndes County. 13 homeowners need chainsaws and workers to carry debris, while another 10 homeowners need debris taken to the road. In addition to seeking volunteers, United Way is also asking for donations of food, cleaning supplies and basic hygiene items.

According to Patricia Brock with the United Way, “We’re looking for people who want to volunteer in finance, construction, supplies and materials. We need volunteers in counseling and therapy. All different areas we’re looking for folks to step up.”
