UPDATE: Man Convicted of School Threats Seeks Appeal

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) – A man who pleaded guilty to making threats against a Mississippi school is appealing his six-year prison sentence.

The attorney for Joshua Brandon Pillault filed the notice of appeal Monday with the U.S. District Court in Oxford, Miss. The case will be appealed to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.

Prosecutors say Joshua Brandon Pillault made the threats against Oxford High School in a chat room for an online medieval fantasy and role-playing strategy game called “Runescape.” Another player reported the threats in October 2012.

Pillault pleaded guilty to one count of making threats in interstate and foreign commerce last year. He was sentenced in March to six years in prison and three years’ supervised release by U.S. District Judge Michael P. Mills.
