Vardaman Sweet Potato Producer Continues Wait for Certification Mark Approval

VARDAMAN, Miss. (WCBI) — A Vardaman sweet potato producer trying to put in place a special certification mark for customers to identify exactly where the product is grown, will have to wait a little long.

Rob Langston and the people of Penick Produce have a logo ready, and is waiting approval on using a new trademark.

Vardaman mayor and aldermen agreed Monday night to accept letters of support from at least four or five sweet potato farmers before making a final decision on signing off on a special certified mark.

Vidalia onions, Florida oranges, and Wisconsin cheese have certification marks.

Vardaman city officials are expected to take up the issue at their Sept. 15 board meeting.
