Vernon, Ala. Songwriter on Letterman

VERNON, Ala. (WCBI) — Legendary songwriter Dan Penn of Vernon, Ala. is in New York to share more than 60 years of music with the nation.

Penn and fellow singer, songwriter and musician Bobby Emmons are taping the David Letterman Show Thursday afternoon at CBS studios. The segment with the retiring Letterman will air Friday night on WCBI and other CBS affiliates.

Penn and Emmons will discuss their hits which date back to the late 1950s.

Considered one of the great white soul singers of his era, Penn’s dozens of hits include Do Right Man, I’m Your Puppet, and Dark End of the Street.
