Verona Officers Cleared in Fatal Shooting

VERONA, Miss. (AP) – A Lee County grand jury has cleared two Verona police officers of any wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of a man last September during a traffic stop.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Department handled an investigation into the shooting death of Henry Montgomery of Aberdeen during a traffic stop around 1 p.m. on Sept. 3.

Officers were responding to a disturbance call when the stop was made and authorities said the shooting was the result of an apparent altercation.

The results of the investigation were turned over the district attorney’s office and presented to the grand jury.

The two officers had been on paid leave since being involved in a shooting at the Verona City Park.
