COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Families, civic groups and veterans organizations across the country are pausing in the next few days to honor the nation’s military veterans.

Columbus Air Force Base Commander Col. Jim Sears told the Columbus Exchange Club today the annual tribute has special meaning for him because of the men and women who are contributing to freedom right now.

“Honoring our veterans from past and present including the nearly 70 airmen from Columbus Air Force Base who are currently overseas at some point, defending this great nation that we all live in and on top of that, honoring their families who are here at home making sure we take care of everything we’ve got and this great community we have here at Columbus Air Force Base,” Sears said.

CAFB personnel will play a big part Saturday in the annual Columbus Veterans Day Parade down Main Street, including a T-6 flyover. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the Columbus Municipal Complex with a ceremony to follow at 11 a.m. on the grounds of the Lowndes County Courthouse.
