MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Less than one week after being injured in an ATV accident, an 11-year-old boy is talking about the ordeal.

“I was scared,” accident victim Tyler Hill said. “I was worried about my sister and cousin, trying to check and see if they (were) OK. And … I fell on the ground and passed out.”

After Hill, his 8-year-old sister, Jaida, and his older cousin, Amber Plunkett, squeezed onto a 1-person 4-wheeler for some fun, they began riding at high speeds and sped through a stop, hitting a hill bump causing a 3-person pile-up.

“I was scared,” Jaida said.

The ATV flipped over on top of Hill and Jaida, leaving Tyler with severe head injuries.

“I was weak … I could barely move,” Hill said. “My head was hurt badly. I was falling asleep and waking back up the whole time. That’s when Amber came up to me and lifted my head and put it her bandanna on the side that was hurting so my head wouldn’t be hurting as bad on the ground.

“I got a phone call from Amber’s phone, and the guy said there were three kids down here on a 4-wheeler,” Plunkett’s Grandmother Karla Plunkett said. “So I get down there, and there are three kids lying down on the ground and the medics show up. It was pretty scary.”

Her fear heightened when she noticed there was something important missing.

“They didn’t have their helmets on, of course,” Karla said.

Tyler was airlifted to the hospital, Jaida and Amber were taken away in an ambulance. All three children returned home with minor injuries and learned some major lessons.
