TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) –  Junior Auxiliary volunteers have been hard at work ,  preparing the Bancorpsouth Arena for the 50th annual Charity Ball. They are also putting arena staff to work for the big event.

This is the Junior Auxiliary’s only fundraiser and all money raised goes to help kids in the area. JA members are hands on not only when it comes to decorating, but also helping those less fortunate.

I’m involved in WAVE which is an up and coming sixth grade boys we do a mini camp for them in the summer, just trying to give them positive role models,” said Jackie Green.

I’m also involved with a service project we have called Drama Queens and they go around Lee County to schools, particularly kindergarten and first graders and we do a skit, a program for them and this year our focus was on bullying and we did it in conjunction with anti bullying week,” said Marci Silman.

It is always a full evening for those attending one of the largest social events on the calendar. This year, there are a record number 175 young ladies who are Living Ads, and of course there’s plenty of good food and music.

It’s a lot of fun we have a great band, great food and if you like to run into old friends, meet new friends and help out the community it’s a great place to come and do that,” Green said.

It’s really a great opportunity to see people you might not see everyday around town or at the ballfield, or at church , school, it’s a great fun night, there is every demographic , every age, lots of people come together to support kids of Lee County and Junior Auxiliary,” Silman said.

The ladies plan and coordinate this event all year and when the clock strikes midnight, the work is far from over.

We will all come together and help each other move it out and take it down and it’s really impressive to see what we can do as a team and also individually. You can come out here at 2 oclock in the morning, we will be here,” Silman explained.

So JA members show up in dresses and leave in sweats. It’s truly a team effort by many volunteers who want to help those less fortunate. Volunteers will take a few days to rest, then they start making plans for next year’s Charity Ball.
