STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Christmas is a time for gift giving.

Its the story of a Starkville woman who just couldn’t wait for the holidays to give a life saving gift. Time was critical, and when her friend needed a new organ… she became very generous.

When Starkville resident and organ donor Kelly Lott found out that her friend Cindy Pittman needed a kidney transplant and needed it soon, she did not hesitate when it came to giving her the gift of life.

“Waited a few weeks before I told my husband and I walked outside he was sitting on the patio and I said, I’m suppose to donate a kidney to Cindy, and he said really. And he came back and said lets do this,” said Kelly Lott/Kidney Transplant Donor.

“She called me because I was at school and she said, well I was a match. So you know we go in a few weeks,” said Morgan Corder/Donor’s Daughter.

Already on dialysis at UAB Hospital Pittman was given only four years to live, if she did not find a donor. That’s when, after much prayer, Lott volunteered for the procedure that would prolong the life of her friend.

“And pretty much knew the entire time from the time I signed up that I was going to be a match. And that, I had a peace that was just unexplainable,” said Kelly Lott.

The operation was performed in August of this year. The prognosis of our recovering patient is good and her new kidney is functioning well. Thanks to a friend that’s become much like a sister after sharing one of her two kidneys.

“She is super compassionate, super selfless, and she is I think showing all of us how strong she is. Not only emotionally but physically and spiritually,” said Morgan Corder.

“And if I could do it again, I would donate again,” said Lott.

Lott, our kidney donor and her family know well about receiving the gift of life as well… her husband is a heart transplant recipient.
