STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Two lucky dogs found abandoned and hurt were in the right place at the time. A pedestrian recognized they were in poor condition and contacted a local Animal Rescue.

When Harry met Sally their bad fortune began to turn around. Harry and Sally are the names given to two dogs found in Moncrief Park in Starkville. Megan Bridges of Grassroots Animal Rescue got a call that the dogs seemed to have been abandoned and were in need of urgent care.

“She said she got out here and these two poodles were curled up in corner together, wet, cold, scared. She was afraid that one was hurt because it was bloody,” says Bridges.

Both dogs were near death, with severe health conditions.

“She has a horrible skin infection. Her nails are overgrown. Toenails are overgrown and all you need is to walk a dog to keep their toenails worn down. The male is blind, deaf, overweight. He’s got fatty tumors all over him and his glucose was so low, that he could barely stand up,” says Bridges.

Bridges says they think the dogs were left by people who could no longer care for them.

“We took them in for a very quick, short assessment to find out their age, to scan them for a micro chip which is identification under their skin. They did not have any identifiers,” says Bridges.

The Grassroots Animal Rescue says they have received an outpouring of support for the animals on their Facebook page and hopefully they’ll find the dogs a new home. Both dogs are about 13 years old.

“We’re hoping upon further exam, they are healthy enough to be adopted out,” says Bridges.
