ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) — Aberdeen is hosting a Main Street Renaissance effort with a one and a half day community workshop on the topic of local food production and community improvement. Enthusiastic town leaders have partnered with the Appalachian Regional Commission and the U.S. EPA to use their expertise to better evaluate and plan for a number of community revitalization efforts, such as a local food and nutrition center and a farmers’ market. Healthier eating is on the minds of residents, and they are hoping to reap some economic gain by doing so.

“We come together when we identify some goals and specific things they want to achieve, and we outline actions on how to achieve them, and what resources are needed,” said project developer, Jason Espie.

Community organizer Ann Tackett said, “There is just more emphasis now, you know, on healthier lifestyles, and this is just, you know, we are trying to progress, and this is where we are trying to go in Aberdeen.”

Aberdeen residents look forward to remodeling the old Railroad Depot in order to preserve a little bit of town history.
