JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) — Mississippi is taking the nation’s largest credit reporting agency to court.

Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood filed the lawsuit against Experian, claiming the company’s careless mistakes have damaged consumers’ credit, blocked loans and resulted in lost jobs.

Experts say the lawsuit could force changes in how the nation’s three largest credit reporting agencies do business.

Hood claims Experian seldom actually investigates consumer complaints and often tries to sell them credit tracking programs that are of little value.
