Video: Airbus Offering Early Retirement Option to Some Senior Employees

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Some workers at the Columbus Airbus Helicopter facility are being given the chance to retire early. A slowdown in global and domestic helicopter sales is leading Airbus to make some staffing adjustments at both its Lowndes County and Texas operations.

Corporate officials say the severance package is an efficient way to trim some of the workforce without having to go to mandatory layoffs The buyouts will be based on salary and years of service. Airbus says it doesn’t have a set level of staff reductions in mind.

Even with flat sales expected next year, current contracts will keep the local plant busy well into the second half of 2015.
