Video: Ala. Trooper in Serious Condition After Crash

MARION COUNTY, Ala. (WCBI) — The Alabama Highway Patrol has identified the state trooper who was injured in an accident Thursday afternoon.

49-year-old David Box has been with the highway patrol for several years.

Box’s patrol car was hit by an 18-wheeler near Hamilton, Alabama at around 2 p.m., Thursday.

Trooper Box was on a traffic stop on Interstate 22, when the big rig left the road, hitting his car, and the one that was pulled over.

Box was taken to a Birmingham hospital, where he is about to go into surgery.

Troopers tell WCBI he’s still in serious condition, with a fractured pelvis, and internal bleeding.

No update yet on the other driver’s injuries.

The driver of the 18-wheeler – 24-year-old Will Rollins – was taken to a local hospital.

Troopers are still investigating the cause of the crash.
