NORTHEAST MISS. (WCBI) – For Dave and Cherie Gregg, each workday begins at a different location. On this morning, they are at Tupelo Christian Preparatory School.

“We have the greatest job on earth with The Greatest Show on Earth,” Dave and Cherie Gregg said.

They brought the “Reading with Ringling” program to TCPS grade schoolers.

The husband and wife team have been part of The Greatest Show on Earth for 12 years. The first five years they traveled with the circus. The past seven they have been known as “Ambassadors of Laughter.” Dave and Cherie drive throughout the nation, stopping in cities and towns a few weeks ahead of the big show.

“We get to see a lot of kids who may not get to go to the circus and bring the circus to them,” Cherie said.

And that means giving the kids a mini circus and getting some lucky students personally involved.

What did you get to do today? “Balance plates,” said John Scott, a TCPS 1st grader.

What was that like? “Fun”

Did you ever do that before? “No”

You don’t do that at home with mom’s plates? “No”

After wowing the crowd at TCPS Dave and Cherie packed everything into the van behind me that serves as their home and office on the road. And they headed to Verona Elementary where they educated and entertained younger students.

Hundreds of students watched as Dave and Cherie gave a very interactive reading of Dr. Suess’ “If I Ran the Circus”

And one second grader was able to get a close up look at the art of juggling.

Were you scared? “No,” said Willea Ezell.

You didn’t move, right? No”

Why? “Because they told me not to.”

At the end of each performance, Dave and Cherie have gifts for students and teachers, and they always leave their audience with smiles, great memories and an uplifting message.

“May all your days be circus days,” the Greggs said.

The Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus brings its “Fully Charged” show to BancorpSouth Arena April 11th through the 14th.  For more information go to www.bcsarena.com or www.ringling.com
